Our bus will drop us in Diman where we will start our hike with a beautiful downhill track overviewing the Qadisha Holy valley that have sheltered Christian monastic communities for centuries and that has been added by UNESCO in 1998 to the World Heritage Sites. We will then reach the bottom of the valley where we will cross an old stone bridge and a ravishing river flow. Once the bridge is crossed we will begin our assent to the Monastery of St Anthony of Qozhaya where we will explore the Monastery, meet with the available nuns,
and take our snack break. We will pop to a nearby small chapel of Sainte Marina and then hike another half an hour to reach the heartwarming Columbian hermit who has chosen to live a life of solitude in the Hermitage of our Lady of Hawqa, carved in the heart of the mountains. If we are lucky enough, he might be outside praying or gardening, before he heads back to his solitude. For the night, we shall sleep in the Monastery of St Anthony of Qozhaya. In the morning, we will have breakfast and hike to the Monastery of Mar Lishaa after which we will continue by cars to Becharre’s museum of Gibran Khalil Gibran where the poet, philosopher and artist’s life work is celebrated. The day will not be over yet as we will head to the Cedar’s of God forest where you can see the oldest Cedars trees, the emblem of Lebanon, and have lunch in the heart of the North before we head back home.
